  Halfway through my internship doing jobsite safety for a heavy construction outfit I knew I had found my calling but it would take a few years to get back to it. Upon graduation I took a position with the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, one of a handful of monopolistic workers' comp systems, as an Employer Services Specialist. That role gave me insight into workers' compensation from both the employer's side, with rating inspections and exhibits, and the claimant's side, by reviewing claims and working directly with Claims Service Specialists. I also got to with the underwriting and legal departments on various projects. After a few years of that an opening came in the Division of Safety and Hygiene. I was asked if I would be willing to focus on construction and I gladly accepted. I worked with construction companies ranging from two-person specialty contractors all the way to national firms doing jobs in the southwest Ohio region. Services included job site audits, program development, onsite training, and teaching construction safety courses around the state. An opportunity opened with the largest local contractor in the Dayton market and I worked my way to overseeing the Safety Department for all regions. I now manage a team of up to seven safety managers and engineers covering five offices in three states. There is nothing I enjoy more professionally than knowing everyone on our jobsites is going home the same way they got to work, just a little dirtier. Danis
